2019 Mercedes-AMG A45 spied sporting quad pipes
The Mercedes-AMG A45 has been spied during testing, giving us a clearer peek at the upcoming turbo tearaway.
Although it isn’t uncovered to the same extent as the regular A-Class, which was snapped testing alongside a Golf 7.5 last week, the latest shots give us a better look at the front end of the all-wheel drive hot hatch.
The prototype with a Panamerica-style grille, which sits above a broad, low-set air intake. The right-hand side of the front bumper also appears to house an air intake, but there are no cooling holes cut into the left-hand side.
With wider wheel arches, bigger wheels and lower suspension than the standard A-Class prototypes, the A45 certainly looks mean.
Down back, the latest prototype is fitted with a set of massive quad exhaust pipes, but there’s still no sign of a rear wing. Expect to see a more aggressive aero pack, the likes of which is already offered on the current car, when the new A45 launches.
When it lands, the car is expected to produce upwards of 300kW from a turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Tobias Moers, head of Mercedes-AMG, told CarAdvice an electric compressor wouldn’t feature in the initial model.
“An electric turbine is something we have a close link to, but maybe not in that first version,” Moers said.
Along with the fully-loaded A45, the new A-Class range is expected to include a warmed-over AMG A40 – designed in a similar vein to the AMG 43 line – sitting below it.
No shots of the A45 interior have been snapped, but previous shots of the A-Class have revealed a more stylish centre console than features on the current car, with round vents and a scaled-down take on the dual-screen infotainment setup from the E- and S-Class.
