Mazda Vision Coupe concept showcases next-generation design
As is a tradition for the Japanese brand, it has used the bi-annual Tokyo motor show to showcase a vision concept, following on from the previous show’s RX-Vision.
The Vision Coupe concept, which has four doors, not two, is not an extension of the RX-Vision concept, but more than likely a showcase for the future of large sedans from Mazda. It’s more than likely the Vision Coupe hints at what we may expect from the next-generation Mazda 6, which is still a few years away.
The maturity of the Kodo design language seen here further enhances Mazda’s reputation as arguably the designer of the best-looking Japanese vehicles on sale today, with the brand set on creating classically-styled vehicles rather than adopting compatriot manufacturers’s more futuristic design ethos.
Mazda says the Vision Coupe features a “one motion” form that “exudes a sense of speed”, though we are not entirely sure what that means.
The Vision Coupe is part of the Mazda brand’s “sustainable zoom-zoom 2030”, which sees the blend of next-generation SkyActiv-X technologies. According to Mazda, its future vehicles will bring the very fundamental appeal of the automobile, which the Japanese brand says is “driving pleasure” with the ability to inspire buyers and “enrich society and help bring about a beautiful earth”.
Joining the Vision Coupe joins on Mazda’s stand in Tokyo is the preview of the next-generation Mazda 3, in the form of the Kai concept.
